Facing an age of boundless migration within Europe, increasing mobility of individuals and a reduction of control mechanisms as well as a reduction in police staff all over Europe, the individual feeling of safety of European citizens is diminished giving way to anxiety and the feeling of not being protected by their governments. An increasing number of citizens within Europe join private Neighbourhood Initiatives with the aim to protect themselves, to fight criminal offences and to exchange information on the recent developments of criminal activities and methods in their immediate neighbourhood. During our 3rd annual conference from Sep 30 to Oct 1 2016, at the “Amtshaus Hietzing” in Vienna, these topics have been covered by international experts.
